No account required. Your data stays on your device. ## SelfCapsule for Mac The Mac app is a direct download from this page, not the Mac App Store. The button above fetches one `.dmg` disk image that runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It always points at the current release, so there is no version to pick. To install, open the disk image and drag SelfCapsule Finance into your Applications folder. On first launch the app creates its encrypted database and asks for nothing else: no email, no password, no bank login. Setup then offers to download the local AI model, which runs through the Ollama runtime that ships inside the app. You can skip that step and turn AI on later in Settings. The Mac app never updates itself in the background either. When you want a newer version, choose Check for Updates; if one exists, the app opens the download page in your browser. ## SelfCapsule for iPhone and iPad On iPhone and iPad, SelfCapsule Finance is a single universal app on the App Store. The AI features use Apple's on-device model, so they need a device that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on. On other devices the AI assistant is unavailable and categorization uses your own rules instead; budgets, transactions and reports work the same. Your transactions stay on the device in both cases. ## Windows SelfCapsule for Windows is coming soon. There is no Windows download today, and this page will offer one only once the signed Windows build ships. If you use a Mac, iPhone or iPad as well, you can start there now. ## System Requirements Mac - macOS 12 Monterey or later - Apple Silicon or Intel, one universal download - About 1 GB of disk space - AI: the local model is an optional download during setup iPhone and iPad - iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later - About 150 MB - AI: a device that supports Apple Intelligence Windows requirements will be listed when the Windows build ships. ## What Happens to Your Data on Install Installing SelfCapsule does not create an account or ask who you are. The first screen you see is the app itself, not a sign-up form. On Mac, the app creates one database file in your user Library, under `Application Support/selfcapsule`, and encrypts it with AES-256 using SQLCipher. The key is generated on your Mac the first time the app opens and is kept protected by the macOS Keychain. Copied to another machine, the file is unreadable without it. On iPhone and iPad, the database sits inside the app's own storage and is protected by Apple's built-in device encryption. The app goes online for four things, and none of them carry your financial data: activating a licence key and re-checking it each time the app opens; buying Pro through the App Store on iPhone and iPad; Check for Updates on Mac; and downloading the local AI model on Mac. The free tier needs none of them. To keep a copy of your records, Export Backup in Settings writes a file encrypted with AES-256-GCM under a passphrase you choose. ## How Licensing Works SelfCapsule is free to download, and the free tier has no time limit. It includes the dashboard, transactions, budgets, recurring transactions, CSV import and export, backups, and a small monthly allowance of AI requests. Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription and no renewal, $29 at the current launch price. It adds unlimited AI chat and insights, investment and crypto tracking, advanced reports, and unlimited smart rules. There are two ways to buy it: - On this site. Checkout runs through Polar, and your licence key arrives by email. Paste it into the app to unlock Pro on Mac, iPhone or iPad. One key activates on up to three devices, and deactivating a device in the app frees its slot for another. - Inside the iPhone or iPad app, as an App Store in-app purchase. That unlocks iPhone and iPad but does not carry over to the Mac app; for Mac, buy a key here. Neither route asks you to create an account.
