Support & Lifecycle Policy
Effective date: April 20, 2026 · Version 1.0
This page explains what you can expect from SelfCapsule after you buy a Pro license, and what happens if we ever stop updating the App. It supplements, and is referenced by, our Terms of Use.
1. Your license is perpetual
When you purchase a SelfCapsule Pro license, you own the right to use the version of the App that is current at the time of purchase, together with any updates we choose to release while your license is active, for as long as you like. Your license does not expire, and we cannot remotely disable or repossess a version you have already installed and activated.
If we ever shut down the license activation service, any Pro license already activated on your device will continue to work on that device.
2. Supported operating systems
At the time of publication, SelfCapsule is supported on:
- macOS: macOS 13 (Ventura) and later
- Windows: Windows 10 (version 1809) and later, and Windows 11
- iOS / iPadOS: iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 and later (universal app for iPhone and iPad)
The current list of supported operating systems is always shown at selfcapsule.com/download. This list may change as new OS versions are released and older ones reach their vendor end-of-life.
3. Updates and compatibility commitment
For at least 12 months from the date of your purchase, we commit to:
- Releasing fixes for critical bugs that affect core budgeting functionality.
- Releasing compatibility updates needed to keep the App functional on operating systems that are within their supported list at the time.
- Maintaining the license activation, validation, and download infrastructure.
Beyond the 12-month window, updates continue at our discretion. In practice we expect to ship updates well beyond this window, but we commit to 12 months in writing so you know the floor.
4. What we do not commit to
To keep expectations honest:
- We do not commit to adding new features on a schedule.
- We do not commit to supporting operating systems that the vendor (Apple or Microsoft) has stopped supporting.
- We do not commit to same-day compatibility with newly released OS versions. We aim for compatibility within 90 days of a major OS release.
- We do not commit to feature parity between macOS, Windows, and iOS.
- We do not commit to the ongoing availability of AI features. SelfCapsule's AI features rely on third-party open-source runtimes (such as Ollama) and third-party model weights (such as Llama and Qwen), none of which we control. If any of those are withdrawn, re-licensed, or ship a breaking change, the corresponding AI features may be reduced or removed in future versions. Your core offline budgeting functionality does not depend on AI and will continue to work.
5. End-of-life policy
If we decide to stop maintaining SelfCapsule entirely, or to stop supporting a specific operating system, we will give notice at least 12 months before the end-of-life date.
SelfCapsule is designed to run fully offline, and we deliberately do not collect your email address or any contact information when you install or activate the App. This means we have no way to push a notification to you. Notices will be published through the following public channels, and it is your responsibility to check them if the App's continued support matters to you:
- This page ( selfcapsule.com/support-policy). The end-of-life date will be stated at the top, with at least 12 months' lead time.
- Homepage banner and blog post at selfcapsule.com for the full 12-month notice period.
- In-app notice when you use the "Check for Updates" button in Settings. If an end-of-life announcement is active, the update check result will display it. The App does not check automatically by default, so you must open Settings and trigger the check to see this notice.
- Email to customers who have opted in to product announcements. This is optional and offered at purchase and in Settings; we do not send announcements to customers who have not opted in.
We will also leave the Support Policy page, the final release, and the license activation servers online for at least 12 months after the end-of-life date (see section 6) so that anyone who discovers the news late still has a path forward.
The App will keep working on your device after the end-of-life date; we simply will not publish further updates.
6. What happens at end-of-life
If SelfCapsule reaches end-of-life:
- The App will continue to run on supported operating systems as of the end-of-life date.
- Your locally stored data remains yours. Export tools (CSV, JSON backup) will continue to work.
- License activation servers will remain online for at least 12 months after the end-of-life date so that you can re-install on a new device if needed.
- We will publish a final "offline" build that does not require license activation, so that the App continues to work even after the license servers are eventually decommissioned.
7. Your statutory rights are not affected
Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law or other mandatory consumer protection laws that apply to you. See the Terms of Use for detail.
